Botox is one of the more exciting tools to reach cosmetic surgery in the past decade because it addresses major causes of aging facial skin.  It can do so as well as surgery and in some cases better than surgery. A number of signs of facial aging are due to over-activity of tiny facial muscles especially the frown muscles and squint muscles which cause deep forehead lines and crow's feet. Further, they both pull the brows down adding a tired look to a potentially angry look!

Smoothing can occur at the following locations:

  • Frown lines between the brows
  • Creases across the forehead
  • Crow's feet
  • Bands in the neck

Botox has been found to be extremely useful for those patients with excessive sweating of the armpits.   In fact, Botox exceeds the efficacy of any antiperspirant for this purpose. Results last up to six months. Many patients find a significant decrease in odor as well and some are able to stop using antiperspirants or deodorants completely. Prior to administering the injections, our nurse can perform a starch test under the arm to better target the areas for treatment.

When considering Botox treatments, there are many options outside of the medical field that are now available.  Therefore, it is important to educate yourself and understand exactly what you are receiving.  Questions you may want to ask prior to your appointment would include: For the quoted price, what are the number of units I will receive?  Who will perform the injections and what is their experience?  Are there before and after photos I can see? Is there a doctor available if I should have a concern?  At Hubbard Plastic Surgery and Skin Enhancement, we will thoroughly discuss the treatment with you, including the amount of Botox recommended and show you pictures if you desire.  Denise Kail, RN is a certified nurse injector with many years of experience.  She has been trained by Dr. Hubbard himself and by national experts.  She works directly with Dr. Hubbard and discusses patient treatments with him.  Dr. Hubbard also administers Botox to his patients and is always available to his and Denise's patients.

Botox is a purified protein that smooths muscles with a few small injections.  Once the muscles are at rest, the skin becomes smoother, creating a more natural appearance. Although your lines will improve, it will not radically change your facial appearance.  You will still be able to smile, frown and look surprised but without the lines and creases. Botox Cosmetic requires no recovery time; after the treatment you can immediately go back to work or other activities.   You can expect to see results within days after your treatment with effects lasting up to four months. Botox has been in use over a decade and it appears to be very safe. In fact the doses used for the above cosmetic reasons are a mere fraction of the doses used for other medical reasons.

Botox can be administered alone or along with surgery. It can make some laser and dermabrasion results even better and it can enhance the outcome of a browlift as well.  More and more exciting uses for this medication are discovered yearly. Recently it has been found to reduce headaches, turned-down corners of the mouth, and bands in the neck.
