At Hubbard Plastic Surgery we are committed to providing the finest state-of-the-art surgical procedures as well as non-surgical procedures.  The recent FDA approval of injectable fillers for the face has allowed cosmetic surgery to expand beyond traditional surgical options.  We now have some powerful new weapons in our fight against the folds and wrinkles we all see with aging.  These new fillers provide us with a non-surgical way of smoothing, filling and softened wrinkles and depressions of the face.  As the photos below illustrate, they can have a dramatic improvement in filling lines around the mouth.  Fillers can also be used in conjunction with facial surgery to obtain a more youthful appearance.

Restylane:  The most widely used injectable filler is Restylane.  Recent FDA approval of Restylane has presented us with an extremely safe filler for deep folds and wrinkles on the face.  With many years of experience and use by over one million patients worldwide, it has an unparalleled safety record.  It contains the natural substance hyaluronic acid but it is not obtained from animal or human sources.  Therefore, allergy testing is not required.  Restylane is a clear gel that is placed in or just beneath the skin following a topical local anesthetic.  Discomfort is minimal however redness or swelling may occur for three to five days.  Results usually last five to nine months.

Although the FDA approval only applies to the face, worldwide experience has extended its exciting applications to include plumping of the lips.  For more information on this procedure, please click on the Lip Enlargement tab.  In our practice, we have also seen enhanced results when Restylane is used in conjunction with Botox for smoothing of fine lines around the lips and between the brows.  A more thorough discussion of the benefits of Botox can be found on our site by clicking on the following link: Botox.

Radiesse: Is another injectable filler that is used for facial lines and wrinkles.  It contains the natural substance calcium hydroxylapatite. The results with Radiesse usually last longer, ten to eighteen months in some patients.  However redness, swelling or bruising can last for seven to twelve days.  Our skin care director, Denise Kail, RN can provide makeup to help with any discoloration.

Juvederm: In January 2007 Allergan, Inc. introduced Juvederm.  Juvederm injectable gel is a next generation filler that plays a vital role in hydrating your skin and replenishing its natural volume.  Juvederm provides a smooth, natural look and feel.  Juvederm is the first FDA approved dermal filler that is proven safe and effective for persons of color.

Perlane: Perlane is in the family of Restylane products.  This dermal filler restores volume and fullness to the skin to correct moderate to severe facial wrinkles or folds.  Restylane and Perlane can be used in the same patient.  The hyaluronic acid in both products is made by the same biotechnical process.  The difference is in the gel particle size.  The injector will determine which is right for each patient.

A thorough discussion with Denise or Dr. Hubbard can provide you with more details on the benefits of these injectables and the exciting changes they can make to your appearance.
