BUTTOCK AUGMENTATION GENERAL INFORMATION

The most reliable and aesthetic results in buttock augmentation are now obtained with fat injections.  Fat is harvested from one or several sites including the abdomen, back, flanks, saddle bags and inner thighs.  It is processed and the patient's own fat is then injected into the buttock in a careful sculpting fashion.  All buttocks are uniquely shaped the same and so the pattern and volume of injections varies from patient to patient. The aesthetic result is further augmented by careful suctioning of adjacent areas to optimize the final contours.

Indications:  Sagging, small or flat buttocks due to weight loss, genetics, age or pregnancy.  Note, in many individuals the type of lift with this technique is subtle.  If the primary concern is buttock sag, then an actual buttock thigh lift is more effective.

Intended result:  A more shapelier youthful buttock.

Procedure Description:  The procedure is done on an outpatient basis under general anesthesia.  Prior to surgery, careful planning and marking is done to determine where the augmentation will be performed and possibly where fat is taken away in some surrounding areas.  Usually fat is removed from the low back and flank area to accomplish a more curvaceous silhouette.  In surgery, fat is harvested under general anesthesia and then processed and loaded into syringes for injection.  Injections are then performed with careful attention to location and amount.

Recuperation and Healing:  An elastic garment is placed for three weeks and during this period of time one must avoid sitting or if sitting is done, the weight must be transferred to the thighs.  One can return to work in one week if prolonged sitting can be avoided.  Sutures are also removed in one week.
