BROWLIFT GENERAL INFORMATION
Brow lifts include a variety of rejuvenating procedures for the upper face. Many patients have much of their signs of aging in their upper face and thus have their greatest rejuvenation accomplished with one of several forehead procedures, specifically tailored to the individual's needs. Sag of the brows, frown lines, transverse forehead creases and crow's feet can all be greatly improved with this procedure. A variation of the procedure can also shorten a tall forehead by bringing the hairline down. There are options for shorter incisions with striking rejuvenation potential using special endoscopic instruments and a TV monitor. Recently, certain brow lift procedures have been proven to improve or cure some migraine headaches.
Indications: Sag of the brows, transverse forehead creases and frown lines.
Intended Results: A more youthful and rested appearance to the forehead and upper lids.
Procedure Description: A browlift is done on an outpatient basis under IV sedation or general anesthesia. Incisions follow the hairline and/or extend behind the hairline with many variations depending on the individual. Skin is repositioned and overactive muscles weakened.
Recuperation and Healing: The head is wrapped for only the first day. Initial discomfort is easily controlled with oral medication. Sutures are removed in one week. Most bruising and swelling around the eyes is resolved in 1-2 weeks. Once the sutures are removed, we encourage our patients to visit our skin care clinic for a complimentary make-up session designed to camouflage any remaining discoloration.
Other Options: Sometimes considerable discussion covers whether to do an eyelid lift (blepharoplasty) or a browlift. Often a variation of the two is performed together. Other procedures that can further enhance the result are Facelift, Laser Resurfacing, or other facial procedures or implants.

Modern Brow Lift Techniques
Modern browlift techniques have continued to evolve and results are much better today with our more advanced evaluation and choices of so many procedures. These include the endoscopic or short scar varieties that do not require any scalp excision. We are now better able to shape the brow especially with the addition of frown muscle weakening through the upper lid. Yes the frown muscles can be easily weakened from above during the browlift procedure but that may lead to elevation of the inside or medial part of the brow. An attractive brow especially in the female has the outside or lateral brow higher than the inside or medial brow. The patient above had the outside part of the brow lifted with no elevation of the inside brow. By weakening the frown muscles through the upper lid, this greatly reduces or eliminates upward migration of the inside of medial brow in certain patients for a much more aesthetic result.
