NECKLIFT GENERAL INFORMATION:

Neck lift is sculpting of the neck and jawline contours with limited incisions. Little or no skin is removed. Shaping is accomplished by precisely tightening and sculpting underlying muscle and fat. The skin is merely redraped over the new contour.

Indications:  Fat deposits in the front part of the neck under the chin.  Some, but not lots of hanging, sagging skin in the front of the neck.

Intended Results:  A more youthful neck with better contour.

Procedure Description:  This procedure is done on an outpatient basis usually under sedation and local anesthesia or general anesthesia.  Incisions are beneath the chin, behind the ears, and around the earlobes.  Fat is suctioned and often also directly excised.  Usually the muscles are tightened.

Recuperation and Healing:  The dressing is removed the next day. Discomfort is easily controlled with oral medication.  Sutures are removed in 7 days, bruising and swelling are mostly resolved in 1-2 weeks.  The remaining 20-30 percent of swelling will resolve over the next 1-2 months.

Other Options:  There is usually considerable discussion choosing between this procedure and a facelift.  A facelift is a somewhat more powerful and versatile means of sculpting the jawline and corrects facial concerns as well, but involves more incisions.
